Competency test ordered for Iron River CSC suspect

CRYSTAL FALLS – An Iron River man accused of criminal sexual conduct has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation for competency to stand trial and for criminal responsibility.
Robert Kenneth Streckert, 35, appeared in Iron County Trial Court on Thursday with his attorney Geoffrey Lawrence for a motion hearing on the matter.
Judge C. Joseph Schwedler granted Lawrence’s motion for the evaluation.
Future court dates for Streckert, including a scheduled preliminary examination on Monday, have been put on hold pending the results of the evaluation.
Streckert faces three felony counts of criminal sexual conduct-first degree.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, Streckert is accused of having sexual contact with a female victim between the ages of 13 and 15.
The incidents occurred between 2010 and June 2013 in Iron River.
