IRON RIVER – William “Bill” R. Ahola, 74, of Chiefland, Fla., passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Northstar Health System in Iron River.
He was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Stambaugh, son of the late Sulo and Ellen (Pakkula) Ahola. He attended Amasa Schools, graduating from Amasa High School with the class of 1957. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed as a pharmaceutical operator by Abbott Laboratory for more than 28 years, during which time Bill received an associate degree, prior to his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed 23 years of retirement with his dear wife Barb.
Bill married the former Barbara J. Curtiss on July 14, 1962, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Crystal Falls and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2012.
He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed fishing in Michigan and Ontario, Canada. He also enjoyed deer and bird hunting, snowmobiling, skiing on the family property in Amasa, golfing, bowling and karaoke.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Rudolph.
William is survived by his wife, Barbara; brother, Donald (Geri) Ahola of Ishpeming; and sisters, Joyce Flynn of Green Bay, Wis., and Jane Ahola of Amasa.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Faith Fellowship Bible Church of Crystal Falls.
Funeral services will follow Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Cheryle Spicer to officiate.
The East Side Veterans will accord military rites at the service.
