Tonewoods to perform at Out to Lunch Thursday

IRON MOUNTAIN – Featured entertainment at Out to Lunch Thursday will be the Tonewoods, which includes Thomas Niebrzydowski and Mark Young.

The two musicians met at an Out to Lunch concert before Niebrzydowski moved to the Iron Mountain area. The duo has played Italian Fest, Hog Wild, Sol Blu, Moose Jackson, Four Seasons, Norway Mountain, and private parties.

Niebrzydowski is an instructor and performer of guitar in the Iron Mountain area. Born near Pittsburgh, Pa., he picked up the guitar at the age of 13 and eventually refined his skills with the study of classical guitar. He relocated to Portland, Ore. for 12 years where he performed as a classical guitarist and in various musical groups.

The styles of these groups varied greatly and included country, Bossa Nova, Chanson Francaise,

World and Rock-n-Roll. At that time, he also began instructing music. Niebrzydowski currently performs in the Iron Mountain area as a solo guitarist as well as in a duo with Young. He currently teaches guitar, ukulele, mandolin, bass and banjo at Thunder Island School of Music.

During Thursday’s performance, he will play guitar, ukulele, and mandolin.

Young will play guitar and harmonica for Out to Lunch, but also plays mountain dulcimer, mandolin, and ukulele. Mark has had parody songs in the “Funny Five” on the West Coast One nationally syndicated radio show, “Dr.Demento,” and has one of the largest repertoires of requestable songs in the country – 1,165.

Born and raised in Janesville, Wis., Young graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He moved to the U.P. in 1988, and has been performing locally since.

Out to Lunch is held every Thursday through August 16, in the parking lot between Hughitt and Iron Mountain Streets across from the library 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

” Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music and the food provided by vendors,” organizers said.

This event is hosted by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Dickinson County Council for the Arts. This week’s performance by the Tonewoods is sponsored by McCash Investment Management.

“We are very grateful for the generous support of our weekly sponsors” say organizers. “Without them, this program could not be presented to the community free. We’re in our 11th year, so that support has obviously been a big part of the program’s success.”

The performance at the Aug. 8 Out to Lunch will be the jazz group, Phil Lynch Trio.
