RANDVILLE – Gerald A. Taff, 90, of Randville, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1922, in Florence, Wis., son of the late Dewey and Charlotte (Sternhagan) Taff.
Gerald graduated from Kingsford High School in 1941. Following graduation Gerald joined the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a radar man aboard the USS Pensacola CA-24. After being honorably discharged, he returned to this area and worked for Ford Motor Co. in Kingsford, and later worked for a number of local construction companies.
Gerald started Taff Construction with his sons in 1970. He married Alice Hodgins on Dec. 14, 1991, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
Gerald was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 363 of Kingsford and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, gardening, making maple syrup and having breakfast with the guys. He especially enjoyed special times spent with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Lindgren; his in-laws, Vernon and Hannah Hodgins; a brother, Everette Taff; a sister, Alice Meyer; brothers-in-law, Ken Meyer, Paul Hodgins and Tom Hower; his son, Kenneth Taff; and a great-granddaughter, Elaina Taff.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Alice; sons, David (Rachelle) Taff of Iron Mountain, Paul (Karie) Taff of Kingsford and Dickie (Valerie) Burby of Quinnesec; daughters, Carol (Gary) Nelson of Iron River and Jennifer (Lance) Maley of Carlisle, Pa.; grandchildren, Brent (Angie) Nelson, Michelle (Bill) Beth, Shane Nelson, Jeff (Chantel) Taff, Jaime (Brian Gholston) Taff, Brian Taff, Kelly (Chad Bianchi) Taff, Kasey (Jim Bowman) Taff, Tommy Taff, Travis Taff, Amber Miller, Austin Burby, Aubree Burby, Caden Rush and Hannah Rush; great grandchildren, Dustin, Alyssa, Cassity and Braden Beth, Dakotah, Paige, Payton Armbruster and Jackson Taff; sisters-in-law, Verna Hower of Kingsford, RuthAnn (Henry) Badini of Iron Mountain and Marge Hodgins of Kingsford.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Lee and Rev. Lori Liverance will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
