Fusion compete at Blaine, Minn.

IRON MOUNTAIN – Twin City Girls Soccer Fusion traveled to Blaine, Minn., to attend the largest youth soccer tournament in the western hemisphere.

The event is played on the largest soccer complex in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Team members and parents begin fund-raising in early winter to make this trip a reality each year.

In the first game, the girls drew eventual tourney champion Eden Prairie Extreme, which swept the field. After the early setback, Twin City went on to play teams from Iowa and Grand Forks, South Dakota.

“For the first time in three years attending, the girls combined with players from around the globe making this a very memorable weekend.

“We got off to a slow start but the girls never quit and improved play in every match,” head coach Dave Hodgins said. “It was a great effort and I couldn’t be prouder of the finest group of young women I have ever been associated with.”
