U10’s win tournament
IRON MOUNTAIN – Northern Stars U10 boys soccer ended its season by capturing the Central FC Soccer Festival Championship in Stevens Point, Wis.
On the route to the championship, the team defeated PCYS U10 Pointers (11-0), Wausau United Lightening Strikers (6-0), Dixon (Ill.) Flash Lightning (5-2) and, in the final game, Wausau United Thunder (10-0).
“The team played exceptionally well on both offense and defense with each player making contributions,” A team spokesperson noted.
Earlier in the season, the U10 boys placed third at the New Holstein Tournament. The team lost a hard-fought first game by one goal, but battled back to win two games to capture the consolation bracket and take third out of 10 teams.
The Northern Stars produced an undefeated regular season, recording a 6-0 ledger in the UPFA Soccer Association. The team defeated teams from Marquette, Escanaba, and Houghton and posted five shutouts during the UPFA season.
The team’s outstanding year finished with an impressive record of 12-1, and each player scored at least one goal during the season.
“They improved as a team and individually during the year due to hard-work and dedication,” the team spokesperson said. “This team was solid on offense and defense. Our goaltenders did a terrific job. The season’s success is a testament to the boys and their passion for soccer.”
The 2013 Northern Stars U10 boys soccer team consisted of Corbin Behrmann (Florence, age 10), Tyler Bengtson (Norway, 10), Braden Boettcher (Florence, 9), Lucas Bolda (Kingsford, 10), Christopher Carollo (Kingsford, 10), Kobe Gordon (Kingsford, 10), David Juul (Iron Mountain, 10), Jurgen Kleiman (Iron Mountain, 10), Henry McRoberts (Kingsford, 8), and Colin Schneider (Iron Mountain, 9). The team was coached by Hank McRoberts and Jeff Gordon.
