Lightning caused Spread Eagle fire, officials say
FLORENCE, Wis. – A Spread Eagle, Wis., residence was destroyed by fire Thursday morning after lightning struck a gas line near the structure.
Florence County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a structure fire at 2067 Town Road L at 7:40 a.m. today, reported Chief Deputy David Gribble.
The structure was fully engulfed when Florence Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.
The owners were not at the residence, located just north of Montgomery Lake, and there were no injuries.
A preliminary investigation by the Florence Fire Department indicates that a lightning strike to a tree and gas line near the residence was the cause of the fire, Gribble said.
The Florence Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Florence Rescue Squad, Aurora Fire Department, Breitung Township Fire Department and We Energies.
