GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – Evelyn Lindgren, 91, of Golden Valley, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013, surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Norway, to Omer and Hortense Haelterman. She lived in Kingsford until the age of 10, when the family moved to Cunard, Mich.
Evelyn married Oliver Lindgren on July 14, 1941, and the couple resided in Kingsford. Oliver passed away on Dec. 14, 1951. Together they had three children, Joanne, James and Karyn.
Evelyn worked for Breitung Township schools for 6 1/2 years in the hot lunch program, first as a baker and then as the supervisor. She moved to Chicago in 1961, where she worked at North Park University, first as assistant dietitian and then as the supervisor of mailing and printing for the university. In 1987 after her retirement, she moved to Florida to care for her father.
In August 2001, Evelyn moved to Covenant Village in Golden Valley, where she remained until her death.
While living in Kingsford, Evelyn was an active member of First Covenant Church of Iron Mountain and the Covenant Women’s Group. She remained active in Covenant Churches wherever she lived.
She is survived by her brother, Julius of Norway; her sister-in-law, Violet Haelterman of West Lafayette; and her children, Joanne (John) Budd of Prairie du Sac, Wis., James (Angelina) Lindgren of Pinole, Calif., and Karyn (Gary) Bryngelson of Lake Villa, Ill.
Evelyn is also survived by nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Edward of West Lafayette, Ind.
A funeral service was held on July 16 at Covenant Village in Golden Valley.
A graveside service in Iron Mountain will be held at a later date.
