Junior district decided tonight

NORWAY – Kingsford and Norway will need a third game to decide the Little League junior District 10 tournament.

After Norway took a 9-3 victory Saturday, Kingsford responded with an 8-6 win Sunday, setting the stage for a decisive title game tonight. The final, set for Marion Park, begins at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Kingsford took a lead it would never lose by plating four runs in the first inning. Singles by Andrew Ferree, Alex St.Aubin, Darren Wood and a double by Aiden Johnston helped fuel the rally.

Norway answered in the top of the second with two runs on hits by Cody Carlson and Ethan Blagec and got one more back in the fourth.

But Kingsford added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs on doubles by Ryan Deau, Austin Vanpembrook and a single by Marcus Maracinni. After Norway drew within one again in the sixth, Kingsford added a run in the bottom half on a single by John Fayas.

On the mound for Kingsford was Austin Vanpembrook who went five innings, and Andy Barker finished up the final two innings.

Norway pitching duties were handled by Hunter Kaldor, Bobby Kleiman, Cody Carlson and Dane Vandenhuval.

Kingsford was led at the plate by Fayas, Johnston and Ferree all with two hits each. St. Aubin, Deau, Maracinni and Wood all added hits.

Norway was led at the plate by Hunter Caldor and Joe Murvich both with doubles.

Norway scored five times in the first inning to take control in Saturday’s contest. Kleiman delivered two singles in the frame. Dylan Neuens, Kaldor, Murvich and Dane Vandenheuval also singled.

Norway added a pair of runs in each the second and third innings. Kaldor doubled and Cody Carlson singled in the second, while Kleiman, Neuens and Carlson had hits in the third.
