Trudy Goodreau

IRON MOUNTAIN – Trudy Mary (McEvilly) Goodreau, 93, of Iron Mountain, left us to be with our Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family. She had been a resident of Golden Living Center in Florence since January.

Trudy was born of British descent in Belgium on July 7, 1920, daughter of the late Thomas and Henriette (VanHulle) McEvilly. She was a proud veteran of World War II, having served with the British Royal Air Force from 1941 to 1946 mapping squadrons throughout Europe. During one of the many bombings she endured in London, she had the opportunity to meet Winston Churchill. Trudy worked for a pharmaceutical company following her military service until her marriage to the late Jack Veys in 1955. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States and spoke fluent French.

Trudy is survived by her husband of 39 years, Francis (Bill) Goodreau; two daughters, Carol Menard of Lewisburg, Ky. and Pat (Andy) Uhazie, Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Jamie Menard of Clarksville, Tenn., Angela Menard of Lexington, Ky. and Christopher Uhazie and Bradley Uhazie, both of Iron Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Menard and Alexis Cotter. She is also survived by one sister, Frances (McEvilly) von Duyke of Springfield, Va.; one nephew, John McEvilly of Brussels, Belgium; and three great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony McEvilly; and a nephew, Patrick Bayart.

Trudy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family more than anything else. In her younger years, she was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook. She loved taking walks and being outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time on the beach in Hawaii. She will be remembered for her warm and caring heart, her giving spirit and her British accent, which she never lost. She will be sadly missed by all her family.

Visitation and private services will be held at the Jacobs Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
