Kingsford to battle Norway in Little League ‘minor’ test

IRON MOUNTAIN – Kingsford and Iron Mountain North cruised to wins Wednesday in the Little League minor (age 9-10) baseball pre-district Wednesday at Iron Mountain’s Larry Barkle Eastside Field.

Kingsford sent Iron County to the elimination bracket 15-3 and Iron Mountain ousted Schaffer 18-1 in four innings.

A nine-run sixth inning sent Kingsford to a match-up with Norway at 7 tonight. Iron Mountain North and Iron County will clash at 5 p.m.

Kingsford’s Logan Normand tripled and Nolan LaVarnway added two hits with a double. Caleb Hepler knocked in a pair of Iron County runs.

Blake Julian’s triple and two doubles spearheaded Iron Mountain North. Ian Anderson tallied two singles and catcher Michael Savarin produced two hits and a defensive gem in tagging out a Schaffer runner at the plate.

Iron Mountain North pounced on Schaffer for 11 runs in the first inning. Schaffer’s Mason Bowers belted two singles and John Robinette drove in two runs.

Norway-Kingsford winner advances to the district finals which has been moved to Iron Mountain. Norway-Kingsford loser will meet the Iron Mountain-Iron County winner at 6 p.m. Friday.
