BEMIDJI, Minn. – Dorothy Lucille Goldquist, 93, of Bemidji, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Memorial services will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with Rev. Zachary Ender officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
She was born March 19, 1920, in Alpha, the daughter of Joseph and Endora (Chase) Arcand. She was raised in Alpha and in the Crystal Falls area. She played drums in the band and attended any dance she could. She worked at Rossi’s and Pedo’s Grocery store. She married William Myefski on June 14, 1940, in Iron River.
She attended Northern Michigan University and got certified as an LPN. She worked as a nurse at the Crystal Falls Nursing Home, Crystal Falls Hospital, Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, the Woods V.A. Hospital, the Iron Mountain V.A. Hospital, and the Minneapolis V.A. Hospital. She retired from the Minneapolis V.A. Hospital in 1986, where she was working in the kidney transplant field. She took a job at the Goodman Lumber Mill in Goodman, Wis., for a time.
She moved to the Blackduck, Minn. area in 1991, where she worked for Anderson Fabrics. She also used her sewing skills to make Trauma Bears for the Bemidji Police Department. She was an excellent dancer, enjoyed cooking and was especially known for her pasties. She also enjoyed going to the casino and bowling. She was a mentor to her children, grandchildren and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Jim (Pat) Myefski of Westerville, Ohio, Darlene (Jack) Houchins of Squaw Lake, Minn., and Sue (Tom) Gibson of Bayou Vista, Texas; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Myefski; sons, William Myefski Jr. and Robert Myefski; granddaughter, Sharon Macki; and eight brothers.
