Bay College library digital collections available

ESCANABA – The Bay College Library Digital Collections is live and will feature digitized versions of special collections. Project Pioneer An Oral History – is the first digital collection to be made available to the public.

In 1975, Edward Gillespie and Pearl Larsen began collecting an ethnic oral history of Delta County. The collection was titled Project Pioneer and was funded anonymously. This oral history is first-hand remembrances of early life in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, specifically in Delta County. This digitized collection is comprised of over eighty sound recordings and printed transcripts.

Through the digitization of Project Pioneer, Bay College Library provides a unique perspective of the history and scholarship of Bay College and the cultural legacy of Delta County. Project Pioneer recordings and scripts have also been archived for long-term preservation. The Project Pioneer recordings and scripts are available on CD and printed scripts for a three-week checkout period.
