WAKEFIELD – An Indiana man is being charged with felonious assault after possessing a large stick and making physical threats toward an adult female.

Troopers from the Wakefield Post were dispatched to a Marenisco Township residence at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in reference to a male subject threatening a family member.

Prior to the troopers arrival, a male subject had entered a wooded area near the family residence.

Troopers interviewed members of the family and discovered that an unknown male subject had approached them from a wooded area.

That subject had entered the waters of Lake Gogebic making verbal threats and approaching them.

Troopers said the man was in possession of a large stick and made physical threats toward the adult female.

In fear of physical harm, the woman called 911.

Troopers made contact with the 42-year-old man from Laporte, Ind.

The man was making rambling statements of Satan and religion, police said. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with felonious assault, a four-year felony.

He was lodged at the Gogebic County Jail, pending arraignment.
