FNB takes title

KINGSFORD – Nick McCole blasted a pair of home runs as FNB captured its second straight Kingsford Area Little League major championship, defeating Dairy Queen 10-2.

McCole totaled five RBIs in the win. Noah Wilcox added three hits, including a double. The duo also handled mound duties, combining to strike out 12 while allowing three hits.

DQ pitchers Luke Terrian and Andrew Paupore combined for 16 strikeouts while yielding 10 hits. Nate Rutter connected for two hits, with a triple.

… In a senior league contest at Aurora, Wis., Stewart Manufacturing’s North County beat Aurora 12-2, finishing the season 6-6. John Edwardsen and Seth Polfus worked the mound for North County, totaling six strikeouts.

Edwardsen (double, single) and Polfus (three singles, double) also led the North County offense. Bob Kleiman had three doubles, and Jaycee Faccio added a single.

Aurora pitcher Spencer Davis fanned three. Lance Davis had a double, while Tyler Beck, John Lemanski and Mike Sword hit singles for Aurora.

… Kingsford’s Allen Painting and Decorating defeated Hermansville Stewarts Manufacturing in both games of a senior league doubleheader, 11-5 and 11-5. Danny Harrington and Alex Wiitanen combined for the game one win striking out seven and giving up three hits. Jacob Mongrain led APD with three hits. Adam Szabo, Noah Voss and Bubba Johnson each tallied two hits. Wiitanen, Brody Sundquist, Ethan Metras and Gage Yaggie added singles. John Edwardsen, Seth Polfus and Bob Kleiman pitched game one giving up 13 hits and striking out 4. Edwardsen provided 2 hits and Polfus singled.

APD’s Noah Voss and Adam Szabo combined for the win in game two, striking out three and giving up seven hits. Mongrain, Wiitanen, and Danny Harrington provided two hits each. Justin Lavarnway, Johnson and Szabo added singles. Al Kleiman pitched for Stewarts, striking out six and allowing nine hits. Bob Kleiman led Stewart hitters with three hits. Al Kleiman, Polfus, Edwardsen and Courage Kruedger added singles.

… In more senior baseball, Beaulier Buildings triumphed over Cooper Office 2-1. Brett Swanson and Brady Hicks combined to limit Cooper to four hits while striking out seven. Brock Grenier went the distance for Cooper giving up only five hits while striking out eight. Beaulier coaches noted that all three pitchers involved were “putting on a pitching clinic.” Hicks and Swanson did not yield walk while Grenier only gave two free passes.

Tony Pietrantonio got Beaulier going with a single in the fourth. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild throw, Pietrantonio came home when Kyle Hennes pushed a ground ball to the right side.

Grenier sparked the game tying run in the sixth with a double in the gap. Beaulier answered with a leadoff single by Swanson, who stole second and third before being driven in by Hennes, who put the ball in play with a sharp groundout toward second. Pietrantonio led Beaulier at the plate with two singles along with the two RBIs by Hennes. Sam Santi had a single for Cooper.
