AURORA, Wis. – Sally Jean Benedict, 53, of Aurora, was reunited in heaven with her mother on Thursday June 20, 2013 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. She bravely fought an 11 month battle with breast cancer.
Sally was born on January 12, 1960, in Iron Mountain, daughter of Frank and the late Shirley (Phillips) Moroni.
She was a 1978 graduate of Florence High School and went on to graduate from Bay de Noc College as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). Sally worked as a pharmacy tech at the Shopko Pharmacy in Kingsford for 30 years.
She loved her second career as the business office manager for ManorCare Health services in Kingsford.
She is survived by her father, Frank Moroni of Iron Mountain; brother, Terry (Paula) Moroni of Aurora; sisters, Sharon (Arnie Miron) Malone of Norway and Susan Moroni of Virginia. She also leaves behind her special friend of 14 years, Bryan Banks of Homestead, Wis. and his parents Darrold and Annabelle Banks.
Sally never had children of her own, but was like a second mother to her nephew Bill (Stephanie) Malone of Milwaukee, and nieces Jamie Malone of Virginia and Jennifer Thelander of Kingsford. Her great-nephew, Brandon Clement of Kingsford was the absolute light of her life.
She also leaves great-nephew, Billy Malone of Milwaukee and great-niece Brianna Malone of lower Michigan.
Sally was a lifelong resident of the area who loved nothing more than helping children. She was known as “Aunt Sally” to many in the community. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. As her body weakened, her faith grew stronger, making the difficult times bearable and inspiring those around her.
“One hundred years from now, It won’t matter what car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much I had in my bank account, or what my clothes looked like. But, the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.”
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford.
Funeral services will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Thomas Mackey will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
