Pieper, Crabb present a local concert

CRYSTAL FALLS – Jestin Pieper, and Lindsey Crabb recently presented a cello-piano concert at the home of Al and Ruth Pieper, of Crystal Falls.

Their grandson, Jestin Pieper, and Lindsey Crabb were scheduled to play at the Peter White Library in Marquette on Saturday, so this seemed like a good time to have an informal concert in Crystal Falls.

They were both music majors at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis.

Crabb received her master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, N.Y. She has just completed her first year in a doctorate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jestin received his master’s degree in piano performance at the University of Texas in Austin.

He currently is teaching piano at the Clavier-Werke School of Music in South Austin. He also is a free-lance collaborative artist at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He is planning a trip to Italy this summer where he will be an accompanist in an opera workshop.

“It was a wonderful afternoon of music,” said the Piepers.

They played works by Boulanger, Martinu, Beethoven and Piazzolla.

Since some of the musical pieces were unfamiliar, Lindsey and Jesse gave a short introduction to each piece.

There were 25 people in attendance. They have just recently done concerts together.

A mutual friend and classmate of theirs from Lawrence arranged the concert in Marquette as part of the “Superior Strings.”

“Their playing is very professional and exciting,” they said.

They have two more concerts scheduled in Mankato, Minn., before Jesse has to return to Texas.

They plan a more extensive “concert tour” next summer.
