UCT majors improve to 12-0

FLORENCE, Wis. – UCT knocked off Florence to remained unbeaten at 12-0 in Little League major baseball.

Caleb Johnson had the mound duties for UCT, pitching four innings of one-hit ball. He struck out nine and walked one. Colin Visintainer pitched the final inning, striking out the side.

Pitching for Florence were Kaden Schuls, Toby Wheeler and Blake McLain. They combined to strike out five.

Johnson, CJ Bolo and Ian Anderson all had three hits, with Bolo ripping two doubles and Johnson adding another double.

Brandon Proudfit hit a home run and a single. Matt Berglund tagged a double, while Blake Julian and Tyler Beauchamp added singles in UCT’s 15-run showing.

For Florence, Zach Herrick had a hit.

…FNB defeated Aurora 9-1 in Kingsford Area Little League major action. FNB pitchers Zach Wood and Colin Watkins struck out 12 and gave up two hits. Aurora Iron’s Andy Anderson and Ethan Sweig struck out 13 and gave up 10 hits. Noah Wilcox had three hits for FNB, including an inside-the-park home run and a double.

…In Little League major, Iron Mountain Rotary blanked North Dickinson. Rotary pitcher Charlie Gerhard struck out seven and gave up one hit. ND pitchers Quentin Ackerman and Joe Roell struck out five and gave up seven hits.

Gerhard had four hits, including a two-run homer and double. Nick Opolka had two singles and Marcus Johnson and Dominic Schinderle each had singles in Rotary’s 12-run performance.

… In more major action, Lions posted a four-inning shutout over Econo. Daunte Fortner went the distance on the mound, striking out six. He also cleared the fence for a homer and hit a single. Reece Fortner had two doubles and a single, and Jack Perpich notched a single and double as Lions tallied 10 runs.

… Back In Motion powered past FNB Crystal Falls 12-5 in Little League junior baseball.

Jordan Monosso led Back In Motion with a double and single. Austin VanPembrook added a double and T.J Burke and Wyatt Caylor chipped in with singles. On the mound, Andrew Ferree went five innings giving up only two hits while striking out 13. Monossso and VanPembrook finished up the final two innings.

…Cassie Barglind struck out eight batters in a no-hitter as Schneider Iron and Metal beat Arms of Angels 13-3 in girls major softball. Schneider Iron totaled eight hits in the game including a home run by Carly Schneider. Claire Mongrain had a triple, while Annie McCole, Brooke Kriegl, Bailey Johnson and Sam Cross each had doubles. Maggie Strehlow added a single. Abbie Zander and Kate Cook pitched for Arms of Angels.
