Advice for graduates

Here is my advice for graduates.

I am pretty certain that you have heard all the aphorisms for success, such as working hard, positive attitude, self-discipline, etc. Whoever passed on these words of wisdom to you was absolutely correct; they are all true, so I won’t repeat what I am sure you have already heard at some time.

If there is any advice I can give you that you may not have heard it is this: Do not let people get to you. Whether it be trying to influence you to do something you really don’t want to do or giving you a hard time, do not let these type of people bother you in any way. If you don’t want to go to a party when you would much rather do something more productive, do something more productive.

If people are harassing you and giving you a hard time, ignore them, they are not worth listening to.

If you defeat someone in a competition and they are not secure enough to admit defeat, quite honestly they are that much more defeated for it. And above all else, do not listen to the negative naysayers.

If there is one problem I could change in my life if I could go back it is that I let people get to me. Have the inner strength to overcome them.
