Cooper, North County split
HERMANSVILLE – Iron Mountain Cooper Office and Hermansville North County split a senior league baseball doubleheader. Cooper took the first game 5-4, while North County won the second contest 10-4.
In the first contest, Hermansville’s first lost of the season, Allen Kleiman took the loss, working a complete game a striking out four. Brock Grenier and Kyle Johnson pitched for Cooper, combining for three strikeouts.
Cooper hitters were Jake Cousineau with two singles, Grenier with two singles, Jake Thomann with a double, and Marco Savrin and Brady Erickson with singles.
For Hermansville, Seth Polfus hit a triple, Kleiman doubled and singled, Caleb Martin tripled, and Bob Kleiman, Lucas Dombrowski and Devin Schultz all singled.
Martin pitched for the win in game two, going four innings with seven punchouts. Bob Kleiman worked an inning and fanned one more.
Bob Kleiman hit two singles, and Polfus added a double. Allen Kleiman and Dombrowski contributed singles.
Sam Santi and Thomann pitched for Cooper, totaling six strikeouts. Santi ripped a double, while Johnson added a single.
In junior baseball, Back in Motion defeated Spinal Solutions 6-3, rallying for five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Darren Wood picked up the win in relief of Taylor Watt. Wood fanned four, allowed two hits and no runs. Jacob Henes hit two singles, and Owen Petchar added a double for Back in Motion. Jason Rehn smacked two singles for Spinal Solutions. Jacob Tinkey suffered the loss, working five innings and striking out nine and allowing just two hits.
In Iron Mountain major, Rotary posted a 16-4 win over Kiwanis. Charlie Gerhard and Marcus Johnson struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits in the win.
Kiwanis hurlers Caleb Evosevich and Gavin Londo fanned five, allowing 11 hits.
Gerhard hit a homer and single. Zach Spera ripped a double and two singles. Johnson hit two singles, and Luke Theisen added a double. Nick Opolka, Gio Basanese and Parker Stroud all added singles.
For Kiwanis, Gavin Goulette had a double and Londo hit a single.
In Kingsford major, Dairy Queen defeated Aurora. Nate Rutter lead DQ with a double and a single. Connor Edwards added two singles. Andrew Paupore pitched for the win, allowing one hit while striking out eight and walking two.
…Iron Mountain Hall Orthodontics remained undefeated in major girls softball with a victory over Niagara. Mya Khor belted a home run, and Hanna Ellis connected for three hits in Hall’s 20-run attack. Olyvea Galeazzi was the winning pitcher. Halls also notched an 18-6 win over Krist Oil. Ella Fortner, Jorden Stoner and Zoe Spera each had four hits in the game. Saylor Swartout struck out six in the win.
