Senior Expo a success

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Daily News’ annual Senior Expo continues to be a popular and informative event for area senior citizens.

Approximately 200 people attended the free expo on Wednesday at Pine Grove Country Club.

“This is the third year in a row that we’ve had a Senior Expo in Iron Mountain and attendance is stronger than ever,” said Daily News advertising director Corky DeRoeck. “It was a sold-out event for the first time.”

There will also be a Senior Expo held in Iron County in the fall.

Attendees heard from a variety of speakers who focused on issues that are important to senior citizens.

Speakers included audiologist Jeff Hutchinson, Dr. Vijay Singh of Pain Diagnostics, Heather Schmutzler of Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Beth Bray of Classic Carpet Care, physical therapist Tim McGuire, Dr. James Surrell of Marquette General Hospital, Tammy LaBarge of Manor Care, Matt Nash of Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, and Mike Morgan of the First National Bank & Trust Co. of Iron Mountain-Kingsford.

Many attendees had a difficult time picking their favorite speakers.

“I enjoyed them all,” said Betty Bal of Norway. “It’s been very interesting.”

Marie Devine of Norway agreed.

“We’ve been here before,” she said. “It’s always informative.”

Delores Luba of Kingsford was another repeat attendee.

“It’s very good so far,” said Luba. “I’ve enjoyed all of it.”

Agatha Cavaiani of Kingsford said that she enjoyed Tim McGuire’s presentation, and she was looking forward to hearing Dr. James Surrell speak.

“It’s excellent,” she said of the expo. “We’re already waiting to come again next year.”
