Freeze warning tonight

IRON MOUNTAIN – A freeze warning is in effect from midnight tonight to 7 a.m. Friday for Florence and northern Marinette counties.
The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook for frost for much of the Upper Peninsula, including Dickinson and Iron counties.
The National Weather Service reports a chilly Canadian air mass will surge into the area today on north winds, and the combination of clear skies, cool dry air and
diminishing winds will allow temperatures to drop to unseasonably cold levels tonight.
The predicted overnight temperatures are in the upper to mid 20s tonight.
Weather officials said the normal temperature for this time of year is mid 40s at night, so temperatures tonight will be 15 degrees below that.
But it’s not unusual to get frost at this time of year, official said.
Cold-sensitive plants will require protection to ensure their survival and should be covered with a tarp or cloth or brought into a garage or shed overnight.
Weather officials said temperatures may approach freezing both Friday night and Saturday night.
A gradual warm-up is expected the rest of the weekend with milder temperatures next week.
A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are expected. The hazardous weather outlook is for frost tonight, and patchy frost late Friday night and also Saturday night.
