FELCH – Doris Ann Johnson, 81, of Felch, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
She was born July 27, 1931, in Felch, daughter of the late Victor and Amelia Johnson. Her grandparents, Matt and Maria Johnson, were pioneers of Metropolitan.
Doris graduated from Felch High School in 1949 and was a lifelong resident of the area. She worked several jobs including General Controls, Steinbrecher Brothers Farms and the family farm at Six Mile Lake. Doris was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan, where she was a lifelong member.
She will be remembered as being a hard working, humble, generous, straight forward, strong and independent woman. Doris was always willing to help when needed and assisted many elderly people in the community during her life. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and reading.
She is survived by cousins and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Bernard, Roy and Robert Johnson.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Joel Smeby will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch Cemetery.
Special thanks to her neighbors at Six Mile Lake who supported and assisted her during her struggles with Parkinson’s Disease, especially Mary Buzzo. Thanks to Dr. Barry Johnson for his compassionate medical services and to the staff at Freeman’s Nursing Home for their care during the last years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Bay Cliff Health Camp.
