IRON MOUNTAIN – Raymond D. Hoyum, 68, formerly of Iron Mountain, Quinnesec and Menominee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Leavenworth, Kan., surrounded by his loving family.
Raymond was the son of Elizabeth (Turrie) Hoyum and the late Harvey Hoyum. He was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1962. Ray married Cheri (Shay) on Sept. 10, 1976, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church. They lived in Quinnesec until 2002, and more recently resided in Menominee.
Ray worked many years in the foundry business as a core maker, first with Grede Foundry and then for 28 years with Smith Castings, retiring as a supervisor in March 2004. Ray looked forward to fishing on Lake Superior with his wife Cheri after he retired; they shared many good times together. He also liked to hunt and enjoyed woodworking.
Ray is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Hoyum; his children; two sisters; one brother; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Cherilyn Ann; his father, Harvey; a sister, Marcella Hoyum Staples; a niece, Samantha Staples Smoot; and a nephew, Christopher Hoyum.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
