IRON MOUNTAIN – Helen M. Antes, 76, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Brookfield, Wis., died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1937, in Channing, daughter of the late Alfred Sr. and Ethel (Fraley) Opsahl.
Helen graduated from Channing High School in 1954.
Helen married Charles Antes on Jan. 14, 1957, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1992. She worked at Briggs & Stratton in Milwaukee for 30 years, retiring in 1993.
Helen was a former member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Brookfield. She was a longtime supporter of the United Way and volunteered many hours of her time to help the organization. Helen enjoyed telling jokes, going to the casino, running marathons, golfing and going on ski trips with her family.
She is survived by one son, Jeff Antes in California; three brothers, Alfred (Donna) Opsahl of Green Bay, Wis., Robert “Buddy” (Janice) Opsahl of Iron Mountain, and Jim Opsahl of Iron Mountain who was her caregiver for the last 15 years; four grandchildren, Samantha (Samuel) Barta, Crystal Antes, Andrew Noble, and Matthew Noble; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kaine; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Lynn Nix-Antes; a sister, Patsy Ann Opsahl; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Opsahl.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Family Center at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Milwaukee. Funeral services will follow at noon in the Family Center. Fr. Brad Krawczyk will officiate.
Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park.
Helen’s family would like to thank the staff at Hyland Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received while there and her sister-in-law, Janice for her loving care.
