‘Competitive’ Knights eye ‘Highland’ opener
NORWAY – Norway hopes to tee off Tuesday in the Highland Invitational high school golf meet.
“I expect the golf teams to be competitive this year,” Norway Coach Tony Zygiel said. “We have many experienced golfers returning.”
Mike Zygiel, Bo Brew and Ethan Stieg are returning seniors from last year. Zygiel has the most experience, entering his fourth season as a varsity golfer.
“Bo Brew and Ethan Stieg had a lot of play time last year,” Coach Zygiel said. “Justin Anderson and Austin Hansen both return from a very successful freshman year.”
Judd Gregg and Bryce Kelly are out for their first year of golf.
“We will be starting our season at the Highland Invitational without a lot of practice, but the kids are excited to get started,” Zygiel said.
For the Knights girls, four-year performer Shelby Matonich is the only senior golfer.
“Nicole Glanville, Brooke Teafoe and Sara Bietila return from last year’s team with good experience,” Zygiel said.
Lane Broden and Paige Sheski are newcomers.
“Again, the Mid-Peninsula Conference will be tough this year with a lot of good golfers,” Zygiel said.
