Kingsford brings back four to boys golf team

KINGSFORD – Kingsford’s boys golf team brings back four varsity players from last year, and with the late start to the season, head coach Jim Myllyla says it will take a few weeks to sort out the lineup.

Nick Baldwin is among the Flivvers returners. He placed third at the U.P. finals last season.

“Nick Baldwin is very serious about golf and should be in the mix in all of our meets,” Myllyla said. “We also have a nice group of younger players that are out this spring.”

If the Flivvers can get improvement from Cole Michaud, Derek Carpenter and Marcus Andrews, the team should fare well, according to Myllyla.

Kingsford’s fifth varsity spot is up for grabs as the season opens.

“I am looking for someone to grab a varsity spot and it should be competitive,” Myllyla said. “It would really help us if get help from the fifth spot.”

Kingsford competes at Escanaba today.

“They are tired of hitting into the net and are looking forward to getting on the course,” Myllyla said.
