Flivvers in control

KINGSFORD – Kingsford’s pitchers dominated Westwood’s bats as the Flivvers chalked 14-1 and 8-6 victories over the Patriots Wednesday at Lodal Park.

“I thought that our pitching was very strong tonight,” Flivvers head coach Kevin Murdock said. “Both pitchers hit their spots well and changed speeds well.”

Emily Murdock worked the circle in the first game, allowing just four hits while whiffing nine.

In game 2, Sammie Zander went the distance, allowing seven hits while striking out another eight batters.

“When you strike out 17 and only walk four you are pitching very well,” Murdock said. “I was really pleased with Sammie’s performance.”

Maria Wiltzius, Murdock, Brooke Sanford and Lorna Caron each had one hit in the first game. Sadie Ventimiglia, Whitney Wender, Libby Lee and Molly Meneguozzo notched hits in the second contest.

Kingsford is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Escanaba this afternoon.
