‘Offensive Player of the Year’

IRON MOUNTAIN – Nick Murvich of Vulcan was named the Green Bay Junior Gambler Pee Wee Major Offensive Player of the Year as voted on by his teammates.

Murvich led the 2000 Jr. Gamblers in scoring for a third consecutive season, and claimed the Offensive MVP for a second straight year. In 2010-11, he was given the Gambler Award (MVP on and off the ice).

The Jr. Gamblers play one of the most competitive schedules in the country. They will be members of the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (T1EHL) for the 2013-14 season. Members of the T1EHL include: Belle Tire and Victory Honda (Detroit), Chicago Fury, Madison Capitols, St. Louis Jr. Blues, Los Angeles Jr. Kings, Colorado Thunderbirds, Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins, Cleveland Barons, Washington Little Caps, and Philadelphia Jr. Flyers amongst others.

The Jr. Gamblers ended the season ranked 62nd in the country in Tier 1 and 72nd out of 844 combined Tier 1 and 2 teams.

Murvich started playing hockey at age four and skated in the Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association for several seasons. He then moved up to play a season for the Escanaba Hawks AA organization before making the AAA Jr. Gamblers squad.

“Nick has elite level speed and creates offensive opportunities for us almost every time he touches the puck,” Gamblers assistant coach Paul Baker noted. “This year he buckled down defensively and has become one of the top two way players that we’ve seen. He is a game changer.”It will be exciting to see where his hockey career takes him.”
