KINGSFORD – James A. Kole, 71, of Kingsford, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center.
He was born on May 18, 1941, in Kenosha, Wis., son of the late Frank and Henrietta (Steif) Kole.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. He worked as a tool and die maker at Marathon Electric Manufacturing in Wausau, Wis., for many years.
He married Janet Abt on Oct. 5, 1963, in Wausau. The coupled lived in Wausau and Aniwa, Wis., before moving to Crystal Falls in 1995, and to Kingsford in 2008.
Jim was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church. His favorite activity was ice fishing. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and playing cards. Jim was an avid Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers fan.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet; one sister, Lois Schroeder of Virginia; one brother, David (Donna) Kole of California; six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elaine (Clarence) Nienow, Ron (Midge) Abt, Dick (Janet) Abt, Darlene (Dave) Manecke, Judy (Bob) Walkowski, and Butch (Marguerite) Abt; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Funeral services will follow Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. Father Michael Woempner will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50.
