No decision on Iron River police cuts
By NIKKI YOUNK
IRON RIVER – The Iron River City Council is continuing to look at reducing the city’s police force.
During a special meeting Thursday, the council discussed the issue, but made no decisions.
Council members directed Iron River City Manager Perry Franzoi to draw up a budget showing how much police staffing the city can afford.
Franzoi said that the budget must be adopted by June 1, so a decision on police staffing should be made by that time.
There are currently six full-time officers and one full-time administrative assistant on the Iron River Police Department.
One of the officers will retire early on June 30, leaving the department with five officers.
