Local author garners five-book contract for series of children’s picture books

AMBERG, Wis. – Spring and safety during thunderstorms is the topic of many classroom activities at this time. “Fourteen Is Too Many,” by Billie A. Williams.

The debut title in this Farm Life Series begins with a thunderstorm, the birth of a litter of piglets, and a lesson in responsibility when seven-year-old Andy begins spending her summer vacations on her grandparent’s farm in Morse, Wis.

There are many surprises on a farm in the spring. Many births are celebrated. When rainstorms thunder across the fields they sometimes cause unexpected events. A mother pig has 14 babies before the latest storm, too many Grandpa fears, but he’s happy about it. When lightning strikes, things change for the happy farmer and his pig family.

The “Treasure Chest” at Williams’ website ( has a host of activities to enhance the value of” Fourteen Is Too Many” for home or classroom use. They are free to download. From staying safe in a thunderstorm to a vocabulary word wall, cloze sentences, coloring pages and raising a pet pig and more wait for you there.
