Winter weather advisory for area

Staff Writer

IRON MOUNTAIN – The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting a winter storm for the local area from tonight through Thursday morning.

Dickinson and Iron counties are under a winter weather advisory.

According to NWS, residents can expect a mix of freezing rain and snow from 7 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. Thursday. Ice accumulations could reach one-tenth of an inch, and snow accumulations should be less than one inch.

Residents should be advised that the precipitation might cause travel hazards and power outages.

Florence and northern Marinette counties are under a lighter advisory called a special weather statement.

As of this morning, the National Weather Service had not determined what type of precipitation will dominate in northern Wisconsin. It could be rain, sleet, snow, or a mix.

If the National Weather Service determines that freezing rain will dominate, an advisory or warning will be issued for northern Wisconsin later today.

More snow is expected for all four counties on Thursday night.
