CRYSTAL FALLS – Irene S. Groop, 95, of Crystal Falls, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
She was born May 15, 1917, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Charles A. and Anna K. (Backman) Long. She married Wallace I. Groop in July 1937 in Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death in December of 1948.
Irene was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1934. She retired after working for Iron County Abstract & Title and later the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
Survivors include two daughters, Maxine (Ronald) Ball of Ishpeming, Charlyn M. Groop of Crystal Falls; one son, Gerald L. (Karen) Groop of Crystal Falls; four grandchildren, Joan Ball, Daniel (Kris) Ball, Susan (Erik) Simmer and Gail Groop; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Ball, Nathaniel Ball, Samuel Ball, and Libby Simmer; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wallace, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, Oscar, Edwin, August, and Charles Long and Agnes Williams; and grandsons, Chris Ronald Ball and David Paul Groop.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls.
The funeral service will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Micheal Laakko will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
