IRON MOUNTAIN – Lena Fiorucci, 102, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born in Iron Mountain on April 13, 1910, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Befania (Possori) Spigarelli. Lena was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. She married Louis Fiorucci on June 22, 1931, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on March, 27, 1996.
Lena worked from 1930-1950 on the family farm. She later went on to work for Freeman’s Convalescent home in the kitchen, Maraccini Custom Cabinets and finally she worked for Goulette’s for 30 years, until her retirement.
Lena loved gardening, making pasta and cooking large Italian meals. She was accustomed to having the whole family over for large gatherings. She always welcomed everyone into her home. Lena continued this tradition up until she reached the age of 101, when the family convinced her to take a break.
She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Church Guild, Daughters of Isabella and Paisano Club. Lena had a special place in her heart for the Carmelite Sisters.
She had three sons, John (Barbara) Fiorucci, Eugene Fiorucci and Vincent (Yvonne) Fiorucci, all of Iron Mountain; nine grandchildren, Dr. Steven (Jamie) Fiorucci of Watersmeet, Michael (Deborah) Fiorucci of Davison, Mich., John (Debbi) Fiorucci of Iron Mountain, Patrick Fiorucci of Iron Mountain, Kris (Keith) Johnson of Iron Mountain, Tim Fiorucci of Menominee, Eric Fiorucci of Kingsford, Tony, Teena and Cody Fiorucci all of Quinnesec, and Christopher Fiorucci of Iron Mountain; 17 great-grandchildren, Jessica (Clint) Baxter, Nina Fiorucci, Gabriella Fiorucci, Michael Fiorucci, Ardella Fiorucci, Angela Fiorucci, Marcella Fiorucci, Todd (Julie) Cheney, Faith (Jason) Roell, Michelle (Mike) Winkler, Heather Fiorucci, Jake Johnson, Keri Johnson, Tianna Fiorucci, Levi Fiorucci, Louis Fiorucci, and Ellie Mae Fiorucci; and nine great-great-grandchildren, Hugh and Henry Baxter, Rome Fiorucci, Talia Cheney, Elizabeth Harding, Chloe and Lena Roell, Aidan VanDeLaarschot and Brady Winkler.
In addition to her parents and husband, Louis, Lena was preceded in death by her son, Eugene; her brother, Adolph Spigarelli; five sisters, Nina Bafile, Ann Tutuska, Ada Romagnoli, Eva Romagnoli, and Alda Bartolameolli; daughter-in-law, Barbara Fiorucci; grandchild, Patrick Fiorucci; and great-grandchild, Gabriella Fiorucci.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will also be recited at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
