Baumgartner leads U.S. snowboarders

SIERRA NEVADA, Spain – Iron River’s Nick Baumgartner finished seventh in the final World Cup snowboardcross race of the season.

Baumgartner captured the small final with teammate, rookie Hagan Kearney, right on his tail in eighth.

France’s Pierre Vaultier won the men’s race.

The race wrapped up a solid season, with Baumgartner finishing fifth in the World Cup snowboardcross standings, the top spot for U.S. snowboarding.

“I escaped the season without injury,” Baumgartner said on his Facebook page. “I won another small final. Dang it was riding super fast.”

Baumgartner was the small final winner last weekend Switzerland.

Alex Pullin of Australia led the final season standings with 4550 points. Baumgartner had 2520.
