KINGSFORD – Wayne D. “Pete” Peterson, 75, of Kingsford, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born on July 7, 1937, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Elmer and Florence (Slaught) Peterson.
Pete graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1955, and attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958. He was a welder and machinist and had worked various jobs between Iron Mountain and Milwaukee, before working at Kingsford Broach and Tool, retiring in 1999.
On March 31, 1979, he married Donna French Granger at Trinity United Methodist Church.
As a former racecar driver, he enjoyed cars and restoring them. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a pilot and loved planes, including model planes. He was a member of the U.P. Whitetails, SORVA, crop duster, and the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50. Pete was a lifetime member of the Sagola Sportsmens Club.
Pete is survived by his wife, Donna; three stepchildren, Lauri Granger of Naples, Fla., Cindy Parker of Clarkston, Mich., and Julie Scott of Edmonds, Wash.; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanore Duff, Elayne Sortino and Cheryl Peterson; and one brother, Elmer Peterson.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow Thursday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. David G. Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Almost Home Animal Shelter.
