Snake-infested swamp

I have become so upset and disgusted with our country that I can hardly think straight.

All I want to do is move to our camp with hardly any connection to the outside world. I’ve become bitter and have resigned myself to the fact that our nation isn’t our nation anymore.

We’ve become an entitlement society where the more we have, the more we want. There is no sense of pride in our work, our homes, our families or our morals.

Our television programs have become smut; same goes for the movie industry. I refuse to give my hard-earned money to hypocritical actors who tell me, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Someone else can foot the bill for their idiotic rhetoric.

Washington has become a snake pit filled with vipers. If you trust and support those self-serving, egotistical jerks on both sides of the aisle, you deserve the devastating results of their underhanded dishonesty.

Liberals and conservatives alike tell us they are representing the “middle class.”

If you believe that, I have some swamp land near Crystal Lake’s flood zone that I’d like to sell.

Instead, they are pandering to the illegal aliens (excuse me, undocumented workers); forcing us to obtain Obamacare when we don’t have enough doctors to handle the influx of medical cases; taking away gun rights from honest, law-abiding citizens; putting us so far in debt that my grandchildren will never see daylight.

Everything that I, as well as you, have worked so hard for all our lives seems to be for not.

What’s happened to us?

We used to be a nation of Godly people who helped others in time of need but made sure they eventually were able to stand on their own two feet.

We brought our children up leading by example. Now what kind of parents do we see?

The other day I saw a 9 year-old rapper on YouTube spewing all kinds of hateful things while his parents/parent/whoever filmed his theatrics. How proud they must be.

My husband and I stood by our children through the good and bad times; life wasn’t always easy. We encouraged them to be all they could be and to never give up. What do we have to show for it?

Two wonderful, caring and smart daughters who have become successful professionals, that’s what.

Both our girls worked at least two jobs during their college years to help pay for their education. Government wasn’t standing by with a handout or contraceptives for the Sandra Flukes of the world today. They are now self-sufficient and resourceful adults.

I sure don’t know what the answer is to our nation’s problems.

I do know, however, that our present administration is doing us no favors. It scares me when our president seems comfortable in taking away our constitutional rights by the use of executive order.

It also scares me to think we have no way of bringing our nation back to its previous status as a great country. Middle America is a thing of the past. We are now invaded by people, many not even U.S. citizens, who are reaping the benefits we worked so hard to make available.

My mother could use some financial help for medical and household expenses.

She lives on a measly Social Security pension while my deceased father’s pension goes each month to pay her supplemental insurance premiums.

Yet she never complains nor has asked for a handout. There are many seniors out there just like her. They should be taken care of without question.

Same goes for the mentally-ill. Instead of closing our mental hospitals in the name of saving the almighty dollar, our elected officials should be working to reopen or build new ones. That’s one way to curb gun violence.

I don’t believe that even one murderer who gunned down an innocent person was sane.

Wake up, America. We have become a lazy and complacent society with a “what’s in it for me” mentality giving no imminent thought to its destructive force.

How much longer can we tread water? It won’t be long before we sink to the bottom of this snake-infested swamp with no one to blame but ourselves.

Snakes don’t have a very good reputation; just ask Adam and Eve.
