City councils, Florence boards holding meetings this week

The Norway City Council will meet today at 7 p.m. in the city hall meeting room, 915 Main St. in Norway.

Agenda items include a resolution for the city of Norway Recreation Passport Grant application, a credit/debit card surcharge fee, contract labor for the electric department and compost site operations and location. An executive session is also planned to discuss union contract negotiations.

The Florence County Board will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the board meeting room at the Florence County Courthouse.

The Iron Mountain City Council will meet today at 6:30 p.m. in the council room of the city hall building, 501 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain.

Two public hearings will be held – one on an alley vacation request from the Iron Mountain Public Schools – and the other on the amendment to the city’s sign ordinance. Action on both items will follow under old business.

Other old business will be opening bids for the city hall carpet replacement and surplus equipment.

Under new business, the council will make appointments to the Iron Mountain Housing Commission, Board of Review and Downtown Development Authority. The council will also consider a request for a charitable gaming license for the Iron Mountain Music Boosters and a street closure request for the First National Bank & Trust Co.’s half-marathon.

An executive session is also planned to discuss collective bargaining strategy.

The Florence County School District Board of Education will meet today at 5 p.m. in the high school Room 215.

Old business includes youth hiring and band field trip request.

Under new business, the board will discuss the school board vacancy, CESA 8 contract, confirm April board meeting dates and class schedules.

A closed session is also planned to consider staffing/contracts/compensations and discuss personnel.

A special meeting of the board is also planned for 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Room 215 of the high school. A closed session is planned to consider the superintendent positions and conduct interviews for the position of superintendent.

The Kingsford City Council will meet today at 6:30 p.m. in the council meeting room, located upstairs of the city hall building, 305 S. Carpenter Ave. in Kingsford.

Items on the agenda includes a relocation of voting precinct 1 to Kingsford City Hall, application for Citizens Advisory Committee vacancy, request for Michigan Gaming resolutions from the Friends of Iron Mountain City Park and a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. on a home occupation permit for Scott Person, 537 Avery Ave.
