NIAGARA, Wis. – Bill Gronert, 76, of Niagara, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Woodland Village Nursing Home in Suring, Wis.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1937, in Niagara, son of the late William and Alice (Saler) Gronert.
He attended Niagara High School, leaving early to serve in the U.S. Navy. Following an honorable discharge he returned home and opened a Sinclair service station. Afterward, he returned to school, graduating in 1961.
Bill married Diane Ponzio on Oct. 31, 1964, and together they shared 48 wonderful years. Bill owned and operated Culligan Water Conditioning of Iron Mountain for nearly 20 years, before retiring in 1999.
In his spare time, he loved to fish in Lake Superior, tend to his garden, play with his grandkids and hang out at BB’s. Bill will be remembered for his huge heart and incredible sense of humor and he never missed an opportunity to tell a story or a joke.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Diane Gronert of Niagara; sons, Michael Gronert (partner Tom Paulikas) of Milwaukee, and Scott Gronert (wife Emmy) of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Megan and Jack Gronert; brother, Gordon Gronert (wife Hazel); and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Friday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsord.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
