NORWAY – Lorraine S. Cook, 87, of Norway, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Felch on Nov. 23, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Esther (Hanson) Cook.
Lorraine graduated from Felch High School in 1944. Following her graduation, she moved to lower Michigan where she worked at a ball bearing factory during the war. She then moved to Green Bay where she attended business college. After graduation, she worked in the corporate offices of the A & P Grocery Store and then for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, which at the time was the insurance company of the Green Bay Packers.
Lorraine enjoyed this job, as she was able to meet many of the Packers players and coach Vince Lombardi. She became a great fan of the Packers and would always try to watch the games when they were playing.
In 1970 Lorraine moved back to Iron Mountain to work as a payroll clerk for Lakeshore until she retired in 1987. During her retirement, Lorraine was active in the Hospital Auxiliary, helping to make crafts for its annual bazaar. She also served as a volunteer librarian at the VA Hospital. Lorraine was very talented at needle point, cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, and rosemaling. Lorraine also volunteered as a reading buddy at East Elementary.
