IRON MOUNTAIN – John J. Baravetto, Jr., 79, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
John was born in Iron Mountain on June 1, 1933, son of the late John Sr. and Lena (Alessandrini) Baravetto. He was a 1952 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and resided in the area his entire life.
John married Shirley Dahl on Dec. 25, 1952, in Iron Mountain.
He started out working construction and spent his first years helping build the Mackinac Bridge. John then took a position as a heavy equipment operator at the Groveland Mine where he worked until the mine closed. In retirement, he worked for JJ Security at the Quinnesec paper mill for several years.
John was an avid outdoorsman and he and his wife, Shirley, enjoyed cross country skiing and walking. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially spending time at Camp Pottsville.
John is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Lori Baravetto of Iron Mountain; two sons, Michael (Nancy) Baravetto of Appleton, Wis. and Robert (Kristine) Baravetto of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Brent, Brooke and Kacey Baravetto; special cousins, Roger (Pat) Baravetto of Kingsford and Donald (Lola) Baravetto of Iron Mountain; sister and brother-in-law, Judy (Joe) Novara of Iron Mountain; niece, Wendy (Bruce) Herman of Green Bay, Wis.; nephew, Tony Novara of Green Bay; and several special friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
