WILSON – Richard “Dick” D. Copeland, 79, of Wilson, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Florida Hospital Heartland Division in Sebring, Fla.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1933, in Thorntown, Ind., son of the late Millard and Mary (Johnson-Roberts) Copeland. On May 27, 1955, he married the former Marilyn McDaniel at Pleasant View Methodist Church in Indiana.
Dick was a special education teacher for more than 34 years as well as owning and operating Cedarview Adult Foster Care for more than 16 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed watching I.U. basketball and being in the outdoors in general, especially the peace and tranquility of their property along the river with his wife for the past 30 years.
He is survived by his four children, Randal (Kathleen) Copeland, Daniel (Laura) Copeland, Sandra (Bruce) Copeland and Elizabeth (Fred) Grenier; two brothers, James (Martha) Copeland and Carter (Esther) Copeland; one sister, Joan (Rick) Culley; 10 grandchildren, Erin Copeland, Eileen (Tom) Roddy, Kelly (Jason) Pivatto, Matthew Copeland, Emily Copeland, Cassaundra Copeland, Andrew Frievalt, Adeline, Aletha and Amelia St. Aubin; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Hallfrisch; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2011; and his twin brother, Don Copeland.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Central time on Tuesday, March 19, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding with Tony Revord American Legion Post 244 rites at 4:45 p.m.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Richard Copeland will follow visitation at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Allo Coolman Funeral Home with Rev. James Copeland officiating.
Burial will take place in the Spalding Township Cemetery in the spring.
