IRON MOUNTAIN – Ethel S. Gagala, 96, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Hyland Nursing Home.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1916, in Chicago, the daughter of the late John and Christine (Blaha) Rozhon.
She married Frank Gagala on Sept. 18, 1943, in Chicago. The couple enjoyed 66 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2009.
Ethel worked as a biller and typist for Grant Wilson Co. in Chicago. She and her family moved to Iron Mountain in 1978. She was a member of the St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ethel was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She also enjoyed gardening and reading.
Ethel is survived by a daughter, Chris (Don) Schmidt of Peavy Falls; grandchildren, Todd (Becky) Schmidt, Carrie (Jake) Bradley, and Laura (Gordon) Kessler; great-grandchildren, Mason Schmidt, Drew Bradley and William Bradley; and a daughter in-law, Mary Gagala.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Gagala in February 2009; five sisters; and one brother.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Father Daniel Zaloga will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
