Robert W. “Bob” Martin

CRYSTAL FALLS – Robert W. “Bob” Martin, 83, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, surrounded by his family at the Northstar Health System in Iron River.

Bob was born Feb. 24, 1930 in Crystal Falls, son of the late Joseph and Marguerite (Davis) Martin. He attended school locally and was a lifelong resident of the area. Bob married Joanna Giordana on July 24, 1954 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. He worked many years for the Iron County Road Commission, retiring in 1991. Bob was a member of Guardian Angels Church. He enjoyed bowling and played on a league team for several years. He was a member of the Beagle Club in Iron Mountain and his love for beagles got him involved in breeding and rabbit hunting. Bob had a keen wit and his sense of humor always brought a smile to his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanna; his daughter, Debbie (Otto) Jacob of Iron Mountain; his son, Robert “Rob” Martin of Warren, R.I.; a sister, Joanne (David) Seppala of Crystal Falls; three grandchildren, Betsy (Casey) Hoida of DePere, Wis., Buddy Jacob of Iron Mountain and Corey Martin of Warren, R.I.; a great-granddaughter, Molly Hoida; a great-granddaughter soon to be; lifetime friends, Clinton and Helen Ross and family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Delores Anderson, Margie Weackler and Bonnie Petska.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Father Jeffrey Kurtz will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Due to Bob’s love of beagles, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Almost Home Animal Shelter in Iron Mountain or the Northwoods Animal Shelter in Iron River.
