Newberry breaks track records

ALLENDALE – Iron Mountain’s Michaela Newberry broke two Lake Superior State University records last weekend in the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate

Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships from the Kelly Family

Sports Center at Grand Valley State University.

The Lakers’ 4×400-meter relay, with Newberry in the quarter, clocked a school record time of 3:56.18 and placed fourth.

Newberry also finished 10th in the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 59.43.

Norway’s Dani Gagne, a freshman at Hillsdale College, qualified for the 200-meter dash finals. She flew through the event with a time of 25.6 seconds and followed that up by taking fifth overall (25.54 seconds).

Gagne and the 4×400 relay finished in seventh, scoring two points with its time of 3:58.96.

Kingsford’s Jaime Roberts, a record-setting Northern Michigan University pole vaulter, is sitting out this season recuperating from shoulder problems.

Grand Valley State continued its dominance with the 14th straight women’s indoor championship.
