Fern E. Rose

KINGSFORD – Fern E. Rose, 83, of Kingsford, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.

She was born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Escanaba, daughter of the late Arthur and Anne (Chiesa) Anderson. She attended the Iron Mountain Schools, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1947.

Fern married Vernon “Toddy” Rose on June 28, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2005.

She worked as a cook at the Knife and Fork Restaurant, and then as a baker at Schinderle’s Italian Maid Bakery.

Fern lived in the area for most of her life.

She was a faithful member of the First Covenant Church, where she loved to attend weekend services.

Fern is survived by her children, Ginger (Tom) Sweig of Niagara, Craig (Cleo) Rose of Pembine, Wis., Dennis (Imane) Rose of Tulsa, Okla., Brian (Debbie) Rose of Crystal Falls, Sheila (David) Weaver of Iron Mountain, Lynn (Bill) Schultz of Norway, Sue (Don) Okler of Kingsford, Keith (Dianna) Rose of Binghamton, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Todd and Gary Rose; and two brothers, Robert and Walter.

The visitation will be held on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home.

A celebration of Fern’s life will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will officiate.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.
