IRON MOUNTAIN – The criminal case against an 87-year-old Crystal Falls man is on hold pending an evaluation to determine his competence to stand trial.

Donald Lafountain faces charges of fleeing and eluding-third degree, resisting and obstructing a police officer and driving on a suspended license in Dickinson County.

The charges stem from incidents in which he is accused of making threats against Edwards Chevrolet of Iron Mountain employees on Feb. 9 and Feb. 11.

Wade Edwards of Edwards Chevrolet said Lafountain had come into the dealership asking for a “Molly.” When he was told that there was no Molly working there, he became aggravated and left, Edwards said.

Lafountain returned later and again asked for Molly. When he was told again that there was no Molly working there, Lafountain told employees that he knew there was a Molly there because he had just purchased the dealership, which is untrue, Edwards said.

He then threatened the employees with what appeared to be a handgun and left, Edwards said.

That’s when police were called.

Lafountain was arrested on Feb. 11 after an incident in which he fled from police and then tried to ram an Iron Mountain Police Department vehicle on his way to Edwards Chevrolet.
