Knights floor Eagles

NORWAY – Norway, in a make-up game, made up for a tough week with a 68-56 non-conference girls basketball win over Stephenson here Friday.

“They came out strong, ready to go,” Knights head coach Carli Kelly said, her team busting a two-game skid. “We attacked the basket better and had better shot selection overall.”

Bailey Grayvold canned 25 points, hitting three of the Knights nine triples. A spurt of four treys in the third quarter helped Norway open a 52-38 lead. Grayvold supplied two of those, with Shelby Matonich and Rachel Conery flipping in others.

Conery finished with 14 points while Matonich had 13.

Norway’s biggest lead of the game was 67-52 following a Brenda Casanova free throw late in the fourth. Casanova wound up with eight points.

Lexi Johnson led Stephenson with 21 points, and put in a five during a late third-quarter push in which the Eagles closed to within seven.

Stephenson and Norway could meet again in the district round, should both teams win their openers.

Norway (9-8) hosts Westwood Tuesday.
