Lady Trojans run away from Nordics, 81-36

FELCH – A 20-point first quarter by Lexi Gussert sent Forest Park to its 18th win of the season, 81-36 over North Dickinson here Thursday evening in Skyline girls hoops.

Gussert, who scored 42 for the game and dropped in six of Forest Park’s 12 triples, had 31 points at halftime and exited for good midway through the third frame.

“She just came out hot as can be,” Forest Park head coach Jeff Syrjanen said. “The whole team was running the floor well.”

Gussert shot 17-of-22 in the game, missing just one of her 3-point attempts.

“Lexi took the game over early, really made a statement,” North Dickinson coach Mike Roell said. “But as a team, Forest Park played very well tonight. Anyone who was open, hit it.”

Kendra Campbell added 10 points for the Lady Trojans, now 18-1 (11-0), hitting two treys. Ronnie Jaeger also connected twice from downtown. Syrjanen also mentioned the efforts of Gins Graff with five boards, three assists and two steals. Maria Stankewicz had four assists.

“We were hitting on all cylinders and playing good defense,” Syrjanen said.

Miranda Jacobson led the Nordics with 12 points and nine rebounds. Chelsey Stroud added eight points.

“We did some good things, took better care of the ball,” Roell said. “The better team won tonight.”

Forest Park’s jayvees also improved to 18-1. The Lady Trojans conclude regular season with a home make-up game against Rapid River Tuesday.

North Dickinson (3-14, 2-8) goes to Rapid River Monday.
